I was
fairly nervous when we went into the room. Even
though Sue billed the whole thing as a mellow jam
session type arrangement, I knew I would be on the
spot.
I met the other girls in the band -- they all
seemed cool.
We plugged in and bullshitted for awhile. Then we
started to warm up. The drummer and lead guitar
player were really pretty good, which didn't make
me feel any better.

I didn't know the
Creamy songs as well as I thought I did. Actually,
I was sort of botching them up and getting mean
looks from the other girls. In the middle of the
third pass at this one song, "Slippery When Wet", I
just stopped playing and the rest of the band did
too.
"Sorry, " I said. "I suck."
Sue took me outside in the hallway. "Look, " she
told me. "Those guys are jocks about this stuff,
but I'm not. Sure, they've got chops, but you've
got attitude. So just go girl, and forget about
them."
