George Condo was born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1957 and had his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles at the age of 26. Since then, his paintings, drawings, and sculptures have been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He recently received critical acclaim for "Collage Paintings," a 1998 exhibition at New York's prestigious Pace Wildenstein gallery (where he has been represented since 1988). His recent projects include designing the curtain for the Monaco Ballet's spring 1998 season; and completing an original group of etchings to illustrate "Pages de Garde (End Papers)," a limited edition book of Bernard Picasso's poetry published by Pace Wildenstein Press. The New York City resident's work is in the permanent collection of major museums, including Fonds National d'art Contemporian, Ministere de la Culture (in Paris, France); Museu d'art Contemporani (in Barcelona, Spain);The Museum of Fine Arts (in Houston, Texas); and the Museum of Modern Art, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and The Museum of American Art (in New York City). | |||
