"The David Byrne photograph in the garbage can was a really good one. He's one of those people that I really love to photograph because they contribute in some way or another. A lot of people aren't familiar with how to contribute and make me do all the work. He was totally into it and was just able to give something back to me to photograph. We were on this pier and spotted this garbage can. He just walked over to it on his own, didn't say anything, just lifted up the lid, looked inside it and decided, I guess, that it was clean enough to climb in. He took the lid off, climbed in, put the lid back with out saying a word and I just started photographing him right away. We asked this welder guy to come over for a little bit and just stand in the picture which he was totally happy to do. I had one picture left. We said thank you to the welder and I wanted to see what he was going to do and of course he started yelling over to his friends 'hey check this guy out.' And that was the shot."
